The typology for plates was initially set out by Peal (1967) and modified by Lee (2009, 68-75). One form is known [type 1] and can be dated to the 3rd century AD. They occur in Norfolk and Mendip, mostly urban contexts.
Distribution
Plates are found in Norfolk and Mendip region so seem to fall within the pattern of consumption for most pewter tableware.
Forms
Flat plate with bead and sometimes footring [type 1].
Chronology
Type 1 plates are known from 3rd century AD contexts, but the sample size is small.
